Let's Meet Downtown business owners Alex & Steph who opened @covalley.spaces in @downtowncourtenay! You can find them on Simms Ave between 5th and 6th Street alongside some other amazing businesses.

Once again we had a chat and learned more about these young entrepreneurs and the business they run.

1. What inspired you to start your business?

Working from home got pretty lonely, pretty quickly (getting yourself for Secret Santa every year is no fun!). That's what made us start this business -- the need for a place to get work done, be among community, and create opportunities for connection and collaboration.

2. What brought you to Downtown Courtenay?

We chose Downtown Courtenay for its centrality. Our members are spread throughout the Valley, and downtown has everything they need: great spots to grab a bite to eat, rivers and parks nearby, and a cute, small-town vibe. We were also supported immensely by Megan and Courtenay at @foundation.hairsalon, who helped us build the business from scratch.

3. What is unique about your business / what do you offer that people can't find anywhere else?

The most unique thing about us is our community! With over forty members, co-valley is home to climate analysts, knitting-app-builders, editors, writers, designers, communications pros, occupational therapists, and so many more.

It is clear these two offer something special here in the heart of the Comox Valley, a space where people can feel connected and get things done! If you are looking for a co-working space for yourself or you know others who might be interested, reach out to Co-Valley today!

The @downtowncourtenay foodie scene has yet another must see location on the list!!

@lalibertecheese has arrived to the great pleasure of cheese lovers and gourmands alike. The stunning storefront is impossible to miss on Cliffe Avenue, and you will thank yourself for popping in to visit.

Again, we asked a few questions to get to know Tracy and her team a little better:

1. What inspired you to start your business?

Laliberté Cheese was initially launched in 2022 to fulfill a very personal need for greater access to European & Quebec cheese. As it morphed into Laliberté Cheese & Gourmet Pantry, we've added on a large selection of food and gift items that we personally love and use.

2. What brought you to Downtown Courtenay?

We've been operating online and through various retailers for almost 3 years, and we decided that we were ready to launch our own store. We knew that Downtown Courtenay was where we wanted to be. It continues to be one of the main retail centers of the Comox Valley. When we found this particular location of 441 Cliffe Ave, we knew it was the one! The aesthetic of the building 100% matched the overall feel that we were aiming for. We are so happy to be a part of Downtown Courtenay.

3. What is unique about your business / what do you have that people won't find anywhere else?

So much! It was really important to us to offer the community something new and different. Our focus is on imported goods, things that are hard to find locally, and even difficult to find within Canada. The community as a whole really mourned the loss of Runge's and Cloves Deli, and we wanted to bring a bit of that magic back. We love how much time our new customers spend going over every item on every shelf, remarking that they haven't seen some of these products outside of Europe.

Well, it really is a treat to have such passionate people bringing some truly unique offerings in our area. Come see for yourself today!

Moonlight and Magic 2024 in @downtowncourtenay was a HUGE success. Beautiful weather and a full moon truly made the night as magical as it could be. @deerwoodmedia put together this clip showcasing some of the wonder we all experienced while dancing in the moonlight.

An enormous thank you to the team at @elevatethearts, @playfulleventsco, @comoxvalleyarts, @comoxvalleyartgallery, @thejoint_physio, @foveo.run, @ignisia_circus, and all the incredibly talented artists and performers who added their special flare to the evenings festivities.

We also want to thank all of the businesses in the downtown core for putting on special offers, promotions, and unique offerings to ensure the community had something to do at every turn.

Get ready for @downtowncourtenay's next big event, the 2024 Holiday Parade!

This year, our theme is holiday lights & music from around the world. We are encouraging floats to decorate to celebrate the wonderful and diverse holiday celebrations around the globe. The parade itself begins at 2pm on December 1st, and the route takes the participants down 5th Street from Harmston Avenue to Cliffe Avenue. Please come early to find a good vantage point to see the bright and colourful creations.
