Moonlight & Magic Returns to Downtown Courtenay with a Tropical Twist!

The official launch of the festive winter season is coming up Friday, November 14, when Moonlight & Magic hits the streets of beautiful Downtown Courtenay! This much anticipated celebration features interactive art, music, crafts & facepainting zone, food trucks, roving performers, street dancing, the tree light up, gallery events, and merchant specials throughout Downtown.

This year’s theme is ‘Tropical Paradise’ where the Island rhythms meet the Magic in the streets! From amazing DJs to art projects to incredible local food trucks, Moonlight & Magic has so much to offer. The festivities begin at 5:00 in the evening and continue through to a fiery finale on upper Duncan Avenue at 8:30pm!

Don’t miss the Official Tree Light Up at 5:30 at 5th and England with a big community carol sing led by Captain Sing-A-Long himself! The singing will parade over to a chill vibe as you sway over to the Local Refillery for the Winter Spiral, a beautiful candlelight experience inviting you in for quiet reflection, warmth, and moonlit magic.

Then the DJs take over to help us dance the night away.

Down at 5th and Duncan the dancing begins with DJ Resister and DJ Eliazar, who will team up to fuse music from the diverse cultures of Turkey, Egypt and Iran with tunes from around the globe including Electro Swing, World Beats, Balkan, Bass, Soul, Funk and more. At 7:30 pm the Limbo Competition features a Grand Prize of 2 lift tickets to Mount Washington Alpine Resort! How low can YOU go?

Upper Duncan Ave will be a hive of activity with DJ Rudeboy spinning the reggae vibes to enjoy around the fire rings on the CVAG plaza. Check out “Drawing with Light” in the CV/Arts Art Wagon where you can experiment with different light sources to create stunning visuals that evoke beautiful sunsets, the sunlight on the ocean and the vibrant colours of the coral reefs. CV/Arts Microgrant recipients will also be showcasing their projects—engage with the artists about their process! The Comox Valley Art Gallery will be open for folks to get a last look at George Littlechild’s life story exhibit ‘Hope for a Better World’. Don’t forget to stop into the CVAG curated SHOP⋮MADE, for a selection of great gifts, featuring local artists and makers.

Lower 5th St comes alive for the young and the young at heart at the ‘Explore + Imagine’ zone, with a creative art area facilitated by Monk Office & Art, face painting booth, VIREO Dance bake sale and JL Dance Hot Chocolate Tiki Bar. Visit with Courtenay-Alberni MP, Gord Johns but don’t go too far…there might be a flash mob!

Keep your eye out for violinist and improvisationalist Fanfare, along with a host of other roving performers, who will be touring all over Downtown Courtenay to entertain you! 5th and England will be the place to be when Mr. Vibes, hits the decks! This dynamic duo, Patty “VibesUp” and Mark “Mr. Berg-E,” is all about creating unforgettable moments on the dance floor.

Various local community organizations will be adding to the ‘Magic’. Pop by and say hello to the 98.9 JetFM Community Cruiser, Rotary of the Comox Valley and the CV Charity Hockey Game players, our heroic First Responders, CAF and Glacier Kings hockey team!

Then cap off the night on Duncan Ave in front of CVAG with friends and neighbours from across the Valley with an incredible fiery finale from Ignisia Circus who blend skilled technique, graceful dance, and magnetic stage presence, to create an unforgettable act.
