HISTORY
This program is the result of a desire by the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement to assist with expenses related to upgrades in safety & security measures for BIA members.
Program Purpose and Goal
This program provides grants to property and business owners within BIA boundaries to increase measures related to safety & security on their premises. The goal of this program is to encourage owners of such buildings to invest in upgrades that create a sense of safety in the area and protect their businesses and staff from increasing crime in the area.
This initiative may contribute to:
- Making Downtown Courtenay a more inviting and interesting place to shop, walk and live;
- Helping building owners to attract and retain tenants;
- Helping business owners secure product and protect staff;
- Contributing to the quality of life of residents, workers, and visitors to Courtenay.
Eligible Properties
Existing buildings located within the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association (DCBIA) area.
Eligible Applicants
To be eligible to apply the following must be met:
- You must be the property owner or the business owner. If the applicant is the business owner, the property owner must approve of the application in writing and confirm that all improvements are to be paid for by the applicant;
- All City of Courtenay property taxes pertaining to the property are fully paid and current;
- Your improvement project has been completed during the applicable year of application; and it must be completed within the calendar year.
- You have not received a previous grant under this program for the subject property.
Grant Amounts
This program can provide grants of up to 50% of the cost of the eligible improvements, up to a maximum of $1,000 per building. Taxes not included.
