The Spool Sewing Studio

The Spool Sewing studio is an inclusive space for the community to gather and learn to sew. We offer evening and weekend workshops based on skill level and theme, private lessons, pop-up events, birthday parties, summer camps and more. We not only want you to learn how to sew, but also WHY to sew. While learning skills and exploring creativity, we are also exploring what goes into the construction of everyday textiles we may take for granted.

Our emphasis is in shifting away from stereotypes of sewing, in a supportive and non-judgemental environment. We embrace mistakes as necessary to the learning process, and have fun while we make. There’s always a pot of tea and some good music accompanying our classes, creating a friendly and fun space to hang out and sew! Our weekly Friday night SEWcials are open to all past students, or anyone with basic skills who would like to come in and work on a project in a social setting (with help available if needed). Our four week Foundations class runs every month, so there’s always a chance to start from the beginning or get a refresher. From there, you can begin to take classes in quilting (Quilting for the Terrified but Eager), clothing construction (using indie patterns), Bros Who Sew (for men), upholstery, and so much more; our course selection is constantly changing to ensure that there is something for everyone!
